According to Science Insider, <http://physicsnow.net/dbis/stories/2006/15162.html> a hologram is a representative three dimensional image of a person or object. It is created by a series of lasers controlled by a computer to output the image. More specifically, according to Wikipedia.org, the light that an object (or person) scatters, is recorded and processed to be later reconstructed in the exact same position. If the object or the recording system moves then so will the reconstructed image making it appear as if the image is indeed 3D.
The newest advances in cheap "solid state lasers" have allowed companes like Liti 3D
