DISADVANTAGES:(

With all of the good that this new technology is giving off what could be the possible disadvantages?? According to Wikipedia and CNN the costs of installing several cameras and the computer power needed to process all of the information, is extremely high at its present time. There were no exact figures that I could find however, I will assume that it must be in the millions of dollars if not more!!

For more information on the technology check out <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holography>

Therefore, at its present time it is not expected to make a big impact on industry. Nevertheless, we must look to the future. According to ecommerce.com, in the not too distant future, industries could be utilizing the holographic technology more than we would expect. Busy businessmen will be having meetings all over the world from within their office. Even though this would save money on travel and reduce our carbon footprint on the planet, this poses a large problem. The problem is that relations with other poeple would be reduced to imagines simulated ones. We would no longer need to actually meet popel. Politions who would use this for example, could meet seveal foreign leaders in the same day accross the world but the actual exchange of ideas and the emotional warmth of being in the same room and shaking anothers hand would be lost. This could harm international realtions!

ADVANTAGES!

  • According to Wikipedia, holograms are extremely difficult to forge because ``they are replicated from a master hologram which requires expensive, specialized and technologically advanced equipment``. Right now, we use still holograms on money in various currencies suck as Canadian paper notes and Brazilian notes
  • In due time many industries could be following CNN who has been the first television company to use a live feed hologram. According to their website, they used a series of high definition cameras to shoot an anchor from different various angles and a computer put all of them together to make her whole body appear in a studio hundreds of miles away! Check out this clip to see how it was done!!
  • According to a CBC report following CNNs first use of the technology while reporting the US presidential elections; the use of holograms in industry and in politics could be important. they gives examples like if there is an important meeting that needs to happen and the president or other important people who need to be present cannot be there, then from wherever they are in the world they can use a hologram. Holograms can also be used in homes, if you are gong away and want it to appear that there is someone home so no one robs you then that is possible as well! Another advantage is that with further developement; we can have tours done of museums or other areas without having to spend money on a person who can show up late or sick.

Holograms can replace....

HOLOGRAMS could be replacing traditional ways of making models for various things like cars. According to a new company called Zebra Imaging has come out with a way to make 3d models of cars in a matter of hours. Compared to traditional clay models which take days maybe weeks to construct, that equals HUGE savings for auto companies. Also according to Liti3D there is a large consumer market for this technology as well....it could potentially replace regular pictures! for as little as 99$ (right now) someone can purchase ``4.5"x6" full color hologram with motion`` and put in their video clips or images they want and be able to mount this on the wall. As well according to Wikipedia, as newer technology comes out and these holograms become mass produced, the prices will fall. Check out their website for more info <http://www.zebraimaging.com/html/holographic_images.html>
A new technology is taking the country by storm! Most of us have seen futuristic cartoons about the future like "The Jetsons". In these cartoons there are a variety of robots and other things that at the time were thought to be completely fictional. Well now that is not the case with holograms.

According to Science Insider, <http://physicsnow.net/dbis/stories/2006/15162.html> a hologram is a representative three dimensional image of a person or object. It is created by a series of lasers controlled by a computer to output the image. More specifically, according to Wikipedia.org, the light that an object (or person) scatters, is recorded and processed to be later reconstructed in the exact same position. If the object or the recording system moves then so will the reconstructed image making it appear as if the image is indeed 3D.

The newest advances in cheap "solid state lasers" have allowed companes like Liti 3D to manufacture small holograms that the regular consumer can afford. For as little as 99.00$ one can purchase a holograms that you can customize. Check out their website for more details!!
